The demand for new towers remains robust in the U.S. Robust demand can be seen at tower companies such as Crown Castle (CCI), which experienced a 30% increase in applications for tower space in 1Q09, 40% y/y in 2Q09, and 41% in 3Q09. The industry expects operators to continue improving network capacity for voice traffic, while the upgrade to 3G and 4G data speeds should maintain robust demand for more towers. Crown Castle (CCI) and SBA Communications (SBAC) are major players in this arena.
